The U.S. Geological Survey said the 5.8-magnitude earthquake hit the sea off the east coast of Japan Monday morning.
The USGS said the quake hit 218 miles (351 kilometers) east of Sendai, Honshu, and the epicenter was 5.9 miles (9.5 kilometers) deep. The earthquake was originally reported magnitude 6.1.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said the earthquake intensity is 5.7 and the focal depth is about 10 km. Meteorological Agency also said that the earthquake intensity is not enough to cause any damage to the ground.
