According to Xinhua News Agency, Russia's President Vladimir Putin talked with U.S. President Donald Trump on the 11th during an informal meeting of the 25th APEC Leaders' Meeting in Da Nang, Vietnam. The two sides later made a joint statement later.
Trump and Putin both gave positive comments on the meeting. However, Putin said that no official meeting has been reached, which shows that the relations between the two countries have yet to get out of the "crisis." Trump "laid down obstacles" in blaming the United Democrats.
The Kremlin said Putin talked with Trump before the photo of the leaders. The Kremlin website also distributed photos of Putin and Trump walking. Russian President Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said at a press conference later that Putin and Trump "made repeated contacts" and "exchanged views briefly" during the meeting.
The two sides also issued a joint statement on the issue of Syria. The statement said Putin and Trump agree that the Syrian conflict "has no military solution" and that it must make a "final political solution" within the framework of the Geneva Process in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254. Both urged the Syrian parties to participate actively in the Geneva process.
