A train derailed from Seattle to Portland, Oregon, on Amtrak Monday during a trip to a first-used speeding section of a train that landed on a major road from a bridge in Washington, U.S.A. Hit several cars and killed several people, injuring nearly 100 people.
Ed Troyer, a spokesman for the local police department, told reporters on the scene that derailment led to "many deaths" but did not give any specific figures. He added that several of the cars on Interstate 5 were hit by a train and some were injured, but no additional deaths were reported.
Brooke Bova, a Washington State Patrol spokesman, said 13 of the 14 cars in the train were derailed and five cars and two semitrailers were hit.
Amtrak said the train had 78 passengers and 5 conductors on the train.
