The UN Security Council voted Monday to demand that U.S. President Trump withdraw its decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Although the vote was rejected by the United States, it made the United States even more isolated on this issue.
The remaining 14 members of the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution, which was drafted by Egypt. The draft resolution does not explicitly mention the United States or Trump, but "regrets the recent decision on the status of Jerusalem."
"What we see in the Security Council is a shame that will not be forgotten," said U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, after the vote, saying it was the first time the United States has used the veto.
